With the special theme of "Global Perspectives on Health Security and Infectious Diseases", this issue presents 14 compelling articles from Japan, the USA, Canada, China, the Republic of Korea, and Colombia. Featured topics from Japan include the background and establishment of the Japan Institute for Health Security (JIHS), insights into its emergency operations capabilities, strategies for strengthening the capacity of nursing professionals in preparation for future pandemics, and an overview of global governance, system capacity, and the health system implications of pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response. Also highlighted are findings from a longitudinal survey on large-scale screening of SARS-CoV-2 variants in Tokyo, as well as a comparative analysis of multilateral access and benefit-sharing mechanisms and the potential impact of a new WHO mechanism on Japan’s policies for future pandemic preparedness and public health emergencies. International contributions explore approaches to building a more robust clinical trial ecosystem for future infectious disease emergencies in Japan, enhancing the resilience of public health rapid response teams under complex urban multi-hazard scenarios in China, assessing the role of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency in global health security, and offering policy suggestions for JIHS regarding health system analysis for pandemic response planning.
