National Center for Global Health and Medicine (hereinafter referred to as "NCGM") (Location: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, President: Norihiro Kokudo) and Institut Pasteur (IP) (Location: Paris, France; Director: Stewart Cole) and the Institut Pasteur du Laos (IPL) (Location: Vientiane, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Director: Paul Brey) agreed to extend the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between NCGM and IP / NCGM and IPL in March 2022. On April 21, Dr. Kokudo first signed the MOUs. Witnesses to the signing were Prof. Didier Marty-Dessus (Counselor for Science and Technology) and Dr. Myriam Baratin (Attachée for Science and Technology) from the Embassy of France in Japan. Signed MOUs were immediately sent to the IP and the IPL by electronic mail as pdf files and became effective when signed by the Directors of the IP and the IPL.
The IP worldwide network, with 33 institutes in 26 countries, including the IPL, is a world leader in research, particularly in infectious diseases, and has produced 10 Nobel laureates. The year 2022 will mark the 200th anniversary of Louis Pasteur's birth. The NCGM, on the other hand, is a Research and Development Agency with a history of more than 150 years since its establishment, and is currently a distinctive National Center in Japan that conducts cutting-edge clinical research on emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases such as COVID-19 and operates an international clinical research center for the control of HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria, and neglected tropical diseases. Through the extension of their respective MOUs, the IP Network and the NCGM will reaffirm each other's strengths as research institutions to develop collaborative research activities which will contribute to the prevention, treatment, and control of infectious and other related diseases in the world.
